Saturday June 2nd: Vegan Tiki Bash!


Now that it’s officially feeling like summer, it seems appropriate to throw a wonderful Tiki bash! This dinner party won’t be terribly authentic, but a tribute to some of the 1950’s Tiki kitsch we’ve come to recognize.
Many of these dishes, I originally made for the San Francisco Veg News Launch Party!  That was for 300 people though, and this will be considerably smaller.  Dress up and bring a friend for a fun family style dinner, and we’ll see you then!

This meal has 6 different wonderful dishes, can be made gluten free, is an all inclusive (no tax, no tip!) $38, and reservations can be made here.

That said, here is the menu for this evening:

Trumpet Mushroom and Macadamia Nut Poke: We’ll roast king trumpet mushrooms, and serve them dressed with toasted macadamia nuts with a little chile and lime to serve over crispy fried taro root chips.

Rumaki: Water chestnuts, wrapped in smoked eggplant bacon, with a brown sugar, soy, ginger glaze.
Rumaki is a mock-Polynesian hors d’oeurve that appeared around the 1940’s. It was always one of my favorites when I went to my Aunt Karens house! Here, of course, we make it vegan. If you haven’t tried rumaki, it might be your next party staple.

Ginger Meatball and Roasted Pineapple Skewers: We’ll infuse our signature meatballs with ginger, and serve them skewered with roasted pineapple, and a squeeze of lime.

Mango, Jicama, and Papaya Salad with Pineapple Vinaigrette: A fantastic fruity salad mixed with greens and a Roasted Pineapple Vinaigrette!

‘Kalua Pork’ Tamales: We’ll serve our ‘Kalua pork’ in banana leaf steamed tamales, served with a Salsa Verde, and a Kona coffee mole.

Coconut Ice Cream with Rum and Lime Syrup

Once again, this meal can be made gluten free by request, and reservations can be made here.
